Lent is usually about ‘giving stuff up’, isn’t it? What if you could add something transformational to the traditional? What if you could give up chocolate and give the money to your favorite charity?
What if Lent was a preparation for a lifetime of big-heartedness that reflected God’s amazing generosity? Well, that’s where 40acts – the generosity challenge from the British Christian charity Stewardship – comes in.
During Lent this year, we’re encouraging the church — the whole church — to “do Lent generously.” We’ll make our way through the book of James under the theme “Faith In Deed.” Our Sunday worship will use this theme. It is hoped that we’ll have some small groups, including Sunday school, committing to come together for a little study and some discussion about being generous to our community.
Sign up at 40acts.org.uk. And for 40 days you’ll get an email with a little reflection and a simple call to an act of generosity or kindness during the day. This can be done in groups, in families, or as individuals.
Lent starts February 14. Would you like to host a small group (all materials provided)? Would you like to sign up? Would your family like to do it?
