Ministries at Seward Memorial
Seeds of Faith Preschool
For ten years, our church has sponsored the Seeds of Faith Preschool, offering early childhood education in a faith-based setting. Largely through the efforts of Miss Anne and Miss Karen, Seeds of Faith has touched the lives of numerous families in our community. Ecumenical Christian Education Ministries
We rejoice to be part of the shared Sunday school ministry for children comprised of kids and leaders from the Methodist, Episcopalian, and Lutheran congregations of Seward. During 2007-8, we were the host church. Currently on summer hiatus, when we return in the Fall of 2008, we will meet for the first semester at Resurrection Lutheran Church. All three churches are within a quick walk, even on a snowy morning.
The Hand Bell Choir
When the church burned to the ground over a decade ago, the only thing that was salvaged was the set of hand bells. Our choir continues to peal forth the joyful sound of faith with monthly appearances in our worship services and an occasional visit to other locations in our community. Practice is on Thursday late afternoons (except during the summer months).
The Sanctuary Choir
New this year is our voice choir, singing regularly in worship throughout the year and at special events like the Easter Sunrise Service. Rehearsals are every Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm, and we hope to keep going through the summer months with Sunday morning rehearsals. Visiting in Seward? Join the choir for a day! Click here to listen to the choir sing the anthem, Hymn of Promise!
Cisum Yloh - The Praise Band
Young, or young at heart, the band provides music to open our worship services and often for offertory's and special musical messages. Many of the members are high school students. The band rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm. Want to know what the name means? Try reading backwards!
The Food Ministries
Weekly collection of food for the community food bank has long been a part of our life together. Currently our food collections are going to He Will Provide, which is distributing hundreds of pounds of food weekly. Folks bring food to church and volunteers take turns delivering it to the Food Bank. In addition, our church is the primary promoter of the annual CROP Walk in Seward and we make regular donations to other agencies in the community which respond to human need, including Seamen's Mission and Seaview Community Services.
The Fourth Annual Seward Crop Walk was held on April 27. We had nearly 60 walkers from the community strolling through the rain to help fight hunger in our community and our world. Click here to see photos of the event... just one of many ways throughout the year that our church actively works to make the world a better place! And you can still contribute... If you want to contribute, just click here or on the CROP WALK logo above to go to the Seward Walk homepage. Select any one from the walkers and make an online donation!
Adult Sunday School Class
Join with other adults in a conversation and questions style Bible Study in the hour before worship. We are always amazed at how the material covered in class enhances the experience of worship which follows. The class is usually opened with a video segment for discussion. We are currently using materials from NOOMA and Living the Questions.
Wesley Rehab and Care Center
Once a month, a group from the church goes to the local nursing home facility to lead worship, part of an ecumenical team that provides weekly worship experiences for the residents. The Methodist Church started Wesley Center decades ago and we are proud to continue to be involved in the institution.
